Upgrades to items are an essential aspect of preparing your character. Upgrades increase the damage of your item and the ability to enchant.

They also provide bonuses and improvements. The Blacksmith can also sell them to you.

Players can recycle any item by pressing the upgrade button on it. Every Best item upgrader recycled adds level to the gauge for upgrading.

Weapons

If a weapon is upgraded, it receives a base damage bonus and an adjustment factor that affects other stats. The weapon may also gain a variety of upgrade components that provide additional features or effects, and some have distinct cosmetic effects. These upgrades can be put into armor, weapons trinkets, and gathering tools. Most require the equipment to have an available upgrade slot and meet certain specifications. In addition to the normal upgrades, a weapon can be upgraded by adding a Calibration Attribute that improves certain stats like Weakspot Damage or Crit Rate. This is accomplished through the Gear Workbench's interaction menu. Depending on the weapon tier it can be done up to four times.

When the weapon is at maximum upgrade, it can be reforged with a number of different upgrade types to improve certain stats or add bonuses and effects. These upgrades can be applied simultaneously, and their effects will depend on how rare the weapon is.

There are two Blacksmiths in the game who can perform these upgrades: Blacksmith Hewg in the Church of Elleh hub area, and Smithing Master Iji in the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Both require different upgrade materials: Smithing Stones for standard weapons, and Somber Smithing Stones for modifying the type of damage a weapon can cause.

In general, it's best item upgrade to upgrade your weapon damage first. Then you can improve your armour defense and finally the secondary stats that are required by your build. It is not uncommon to see melee Druids upgrade their weapons before upgrading any other equipment. This helps maximize DPS. Armor

Item Upgrades let players improve the base stats of specific pieces of armor trinkets, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. While it appears like an ordinary eye of a newt, this mysterious object appears to affect your vision in ways beyond just reducing your field view. At its current level this trinket boosts the overall health benefits of drinking potions of healing, waterskins and wells of health by X%. It also grants eyesight on enemies within the Y tiles. This trinket cannot be combined with the Heightened Senses.

Skull Cavern is where you will find Trinkets after you've completed the Mastery Cave. You will find them when you defeat Monsters, and in chests and crates. They are not available in the Mines or Volcano Dungeon.

When you find a trinket that needs to be upgraded then place it in the Anvil to do so. This will affect the trinket that is random, either increasing or strengthening its effects. You can reforge the Trinket as many times as you like, but it will always be able to produce a new effect.

You can also improve your Trinkets by putting them in a magical catalyst at the Alchemy Station. This will cost 6 energy, but will increase the power of the trinket by a tiny amount.
