Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they would require to achieve the same level using normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack characteristics of a weapon or armor. In the endgame, you will often find that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
