The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning robot mop and vacuum. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot automatic vacuum cleaner is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum cleaner best we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
