The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant automatic vacuum and mop robot cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic automatic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for good Robot vacuum different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better.
