A suffix is a word or group of letters that gives meaning to a word that is larger like -tion in the verb create or -phoria in the noun feeling. Suffixes can also alter the part of speech of a word, like German's -ismus or English's. They can even change the form of a word, like the adjective defenseless being unprotected.
There are a myriad of suffixes ranging from adjectives, verbs and nouns and adjectives. Adding suffixes to words can alter their meaning or pronunciation and some have specific rules that apply. Suffixes can also be used to alter grammatical rules for example, adding the suffix -ness to words to make them an adjective or -ic for a noun to make it possessive.
Suffixes aren't just used to give a new meaning to words, but can be used to add names of places and people. A man who is single might have the surname "Paulauskaite" for instance, whereas a woman married would be able to use "Paulauskiene".
The most commonly used suffixes are those that signify the status of a person, such as -ion, the suffix -ist, -us and -es. They can also be used as a way to describe the personality of a person characteristics like -iveness and -phoria.
Item affixes are used to enhance weapons and armor with additional parameter bonuses. These could be a combination of one or more suffixes and/or prefixes, such as -Fiery that boosts the strength of your atk by introducing fire elemental damage. Affixes for items are available for the majority of items with a level 80, except for made ascended armor and crafted trinkets.
