Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

Using the item level will allow players to compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

The item level upgrade level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its value. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item upgrader mod when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore some items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shops or made using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
