WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item upgrading has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the Item Level Upgrade will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item level upgrade from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrader kit slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will be less expensive, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item upgrading level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade item level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
