With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
