Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the number of perks that must be modified to upgrade item an item.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the item level. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the region the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in early game runs than in later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn with the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can also affect the success of an upgrade. All items have a base success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
