Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item level upgrade it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of an armored weapon or. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals each.
Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of the item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear, even if they are unsure what will be improved after the reset.
The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items to increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, and some upgrades that provide the benefit of being reinserted into an item level upgrade.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in a radius around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 whenever you can.
In the final game you'll often discover that the Best item upgrader way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes more quickly.
Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
Each Glyph has a particular range of values that can enhance a stat by. The value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
When you have the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that boosts a particular set of stat nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important places on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids, for example should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also want to consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is often referred to as "upping". Every upgradeable item has an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets leveled up.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When a player upgrades the equipment they have it is replaced by the new item. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback, as it can make the item more expensive if you don't require it.
Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough tokens in order to do so. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This can be beneficial but it should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player repeatedly enters or exits the water. It can be upgraded multiple times, each time increasing the max roll by 10 points. This item is highly important in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth as much as 50x the value of a unupgraded counterpart.
Requirements
The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the quality of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces boost the defense of the base set and weapon upgrades items increase their base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity.
Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Every time you upgrade an object it is at risk of failing. The failure rate increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures can result in the item returning to its original condition, which requires the player to purchase more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.
If an item isn't upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned, such as chances to be crit, attack damage, or other effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). However, the user can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

Hero grade items will have an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.
Premium items may have different Upgrade item requirements from regular gear. For instance, they may need less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons.
