Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this must be done per item upgrading, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by them.
