The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot cleaner to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuums with mop vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.
