Robot mops work better than vacuum cleaners which require you to clean your floor before they can do their job. They are also better at cleaning around edges and thresholds.
Our favorite is the iRobot Combo j5+, which earned solid scores in CR's tests for mopping and vacuuming. It deftly navigates household obstacles and leaves hardwood floors spotless, as well as cleaning carpets with low pile.
iRobot Roomba Combo i5
This robot vacuum and mop is among the most versatile machines from iRobot. It comes with a standard trash bin for dry waste, and an additional tank for wet. The tank is easy-to-fill and will notify you when it is low. You can also buy a cleaning solution concentrate that is factory-compatible to use with this device.
It is capable of navigating floors and avoiding obstacles. It comes with a retractable mop to keep carpets from getting wet. It is also efficient in removing pet fur from various floors. However, it is loud and doesn't work as well as other competitors at picking up dirt and other debris from bare floors.
The Roomba Combo i5 is an excellent choice for those who need a powerful device that can do mopping and vacuuming without any additional equipment. It is ideal for homes that don't have carpet and are made up mainly of hard flooring. It is not recommended for homes with a lot of stairs or rooms with a lot of rug. It's also expensive but it has the features and performance to justify the price tag.
It uses patented Dirt Detect technology to detect areas that have more dirt buildup and clean them more thoroughly than other 2-in-1s. It also features advanced navigation, which allows it to navigate in neat rows and completely cover walls of a room. The mop pads are washable and can be reused for up to 30 times.

The iRobot Combo j5+ is a more budget-friendly option than the i7 or j9 combo models. It features similar mops with an exclusive dirt detection system as well as powerful vacuuming. The iRobot J5+ also performs very well in our mopping and vacuum stress tests, but it's not as effective as the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni in these tests, which makes the Combo j5+ a less versatile choice.

Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated and highly-functional Gen 4 robot Remote Vacuum and mop that has a new approach to design, the Freo X Ultra is a well-made machine. The $1400 price tag may be hard to swallow but it's often offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic, and the base station occupies just a small space in a corner of an area.
The design of this robot addresses a few problems that we've encountered with other robotic vacuum and mop models, for example, the brushes getting tangled in hair, and the brush not being able to reach bare floors underneath furniture. The sweeping performance is impressive on carpets as well as bare flooring. The vacuum/mop system has a high level of debris pickup, and the mop is able to absorb the bare floor quickly.
The mops use a smart system that cleans along the edges of walls, and around furniture. The robot is able to avoid the bulkier obstacles such as food bowls, toys, shoes, and backpacks without any issue. It is able to get tangled or get stuck with smaller, flatter objects like shoelaces, USB cable and pens.
This robot was used to mop and vacuum hardwood floors FLOR carpet tiles, as well as pile rugs in a huge open-plan house. With FREO Mind enabled, it vacuumed and mopped the 90m2 area in just 170 minutes that's close to the average for Gen 4.
This robot is distinguished by several features. The Freo X Ultra has a slew of software, sensor and hardware enhancements designed to keep it at the top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy for areas up to 260m2.
Freo's app lets you alter various functions, such as how often the robot returns to the base station. You can also change the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent or smart), or the mopping humidity. The app can identify heavily stained areas and design a cleaning route. It can also distribute detergent or raise the carpet pads.
Other impressive features include a fast charging battery, an easy-to-read display on the robot's underside, and a convenient dock door that opens easily. The Freo X Ultra is the best vacuum and mop for home or apartment owners who want to cut down on their chores, while keeping their homes clean and tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is no slouches in the robot vacuuming world and has a reputation for quality and innovativeness. This new model aims to take that to the next level with innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 features dual suction technology smart navigation system that incorporates 3D mapping and a camera which sends live images to your smartphone for easy control. The RX3's four-stage system offers excellent dust collection on carpets and hard floors. Side brushes that can be swung out, dual suction channels and intuitive controls clean corners. The 8.5 cm height means it can get under furniture with ease, while front cameras and infrared sensors help it navigate around obstacles and thresholds with ease.
In our test of how well it cleaned baking soda from corners and on baseboards the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its 2,500Pa of suction was a bit weaker than other robots, but it was able to move quickly and was extremely quiet. It didn't mop, and its removable cleaning pad was a challenge to attach. It also couldn't take on dirt that had dried up.
Its app lacks advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa however its voice controls aren't very clear or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station after an exercise. Other robots can follow the wall or trace the previous route however, the RX3 is a mess until it quits.
Another issue we had was with its intelligent features, particularly the mapping function and the digital keep-out zones. It was good at keeping our furniture legs and shoes away, but it was easily caught on socks, cables, and carpets. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. Still, with a decent price and a dazzling performance it's a Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to the traditional uprights.
