20 Fun Facts About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an Item Level Upgrade by 3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the Best item upgrader is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.
The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.
The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items which can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will display a preview of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.
The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current Best item upgrader level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.
In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will be less expensive, even if they are part of another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.
Crests
Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
