WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade item will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require various methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level upgrade (click this link now) level will cost less, even if they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade items is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
