1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the autonomous vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot vacuum best to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
