Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Sometimes, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They boost the performance of the item upgrade that they're connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrade components from items.

The amount of damage an armored item upgrader or weapon will absorb is contingent on the degree of upgrades. The damage absorption of a piece armor will increase when it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be more heavy.

There are several different types of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Some upgrades give armor a greater number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

A few upgrades are magical or a combination of technology and magic which is shown by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees in order to be used. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but is readily available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can provide significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The player should be aware that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it will also reduce the speed and agility of the piece. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces beyond +9, since the defensive boost gained is generally not worth the additional weight and power costs of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For example an upgrade can improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Some weapons have special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

The majority of upgrades to weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the higher the level. The cost of upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher level of rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would be reset.

It's still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off visiting stores and purchasing equipment with low upgrade levels, but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These items have a better chance of granting you the highest tier advantages and benefits.

To increase their level quicker, players usually be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when used in conjunction with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are used in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for creating them. You combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a diamond can be improved by the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the level the jewel is at when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons, or other gear.

The Jeweler is able to create the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones which you must be at a certain level to get. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped out by a different jewel of the same type without destroying it. However, you can only replace one jewel in an equipment piece only once.

It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above additionally, players can acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that offer many small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by completing road interactions. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased from the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but beneficial boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same way to how a player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets also grant additional bonuses and abilities that are active whenever the hero is not in combat. This enables the hero to be more effective while inactive and also helps make up for a lack of a strong team or any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with the hero's ideal statistics.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an Best item upgrader. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat than two less important ones.

In the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their trinket into a red one in the middle and top players usually choose a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

Aside from the items listed above, players can also find a number of other trinkets throughout the game in the form of awards and trophies. They can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, like the main quest of a chapter or destroying a boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
