WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used to upgrade item will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item upgrades will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using a button, which will show an item's preview at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current item level upgrade level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader kit upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
